Shoreview to buy regenerative air street sweeper

Shoreview will have the cleanest streets in town, uh…. the cleanest streets this side of Arden Hills, or…. heck, at least cleaner streets than they had before once they get hold of their new $209,408 Elgin Crosswinds regenerative air street sweeper. Another added benefit is a new big truck for the neighborhood kids to get wide-eyed over as it comes down the street.
In order to meet future environmental standards of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and to properly maintain the new pervious pavement used in the Woodbridge neighborhood, Shoreview felt it needed to buy the new sweeper. The new sweeper will have a strong vacuum which will collect more debris than the old mechanical broom sweeper can, which will keep wetlands cleaner and keep the porous concrete clear for water to seep through. This new sweeper will be used in addition to the sweeper Shoreview already has.
This purchase was planned for in Shoreview’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and 2010 budget and is being purchased under the Minnesota cooperative Purchasing Venture. The Shoreview City Council approved the purchase with a unanimous 5-0 roll call as part of the consent agenda of theĀ January, 4 2010 city council meeting.
