In an unprecedented move, District 50 DFL members today revoked the party’s endorsment from State Senator Satveer Chaudhary and endorsed former State Representative Barb Goodwin for the seat due to recent questionable ethical behavior by Chaudhary. “Democrats in this district are now united behind one candidate. I am honored they chose me. This very important and difficult decision by the local DFL Central Committee not only makes history, but makes clear to the public what the DFL stands for and that we hold our elected officials to the highest standards,” said Goodwin.
Goodwin is running for the DFL nomination in the August 10th primary. She has been campaigning and fundraising for weeks since a group of concerned citizens and civic leaders called upon her to run for the seat. In addition to the DFL endorsement Goodwin has been labor endorsed.
Goodwin said, “These are difficult times for the state and for our district. People want someone who will work on the bread and butter issues that affect their daily lives: jobs, education, transportation and solving our state’s budget problems. These are the issues I will work on.”
Goodwin served as a State Representative for six years. She has been serving on the Columbia Heights School Board since November, 2009 and is an Adjunct Professor at the Hamline University Graduate School of Business teaching Legislative Practice and Government Contracting.
