Want to visit attractive gardens with a practical purpose in life?
Landscaping for clean water will again be the theme of the free, self-guided Shoreview Green Community Awards Tour, which will be held from 12:30 until 5 p.m. Saturday, July 31, and Sunday, Aug. 1, in Shoreview and Roseville. Rain gardens, shoreline buffers and habitat gardens will be on the tour, which is now in its fourth year. Property owners will be available to answer questions, and volunteers can explain how the landscaping can improve drainage from runoff, prevent shoreline erosion and help purify water before it enters local lakes, streams, wetlands and ponds.
Tour stops will include nine residential properties in Shoreview, one in Roseville and a Shoreview church, the Presbyterian Church of the Way. All are Shoreview Green Community Award winners. Also available will be a volunteer-maintained rain garden at the Island Lake Fire Station. Each property will be shown one day only.
Tour maps are available at the Shoreview and Roseville City Halls, the Shoreview Community Center, local libraries and online at www.shoreviewmn.gov.
The tour is sponsored by the Environmental Quality Committee of the City of Shoreview, with volunteer assistance from the Shoreview Green Community. Questions? Call 651-490-0967.
