The Lake Johanna Fire Fire Department and Ramsey County deputies were dispatched to the 3500 block of Owasso St around 7:00 pm last night responding to reports that garages in the area were on fire. It was reported that 15 garages in all had damage including 3 cars and 4 of the garages a total loss.

Ritter was arrested later Wednesday night in Fridley. The motive is still unknown at this point.

“An individual came in,” said owner Ed Schenck. “Got in behind the counter, got  a hold of some cash out of the register of the change box and split. My wife Cherri, she suspected the gentleman and had talked to him, but he distracted her and got out the door and took off.”

No weapons or threats were involved. It was a deliberate grab and run theft. The suspect is a white male in his mid 20′s, approximately 5’10″. He was unkempt with bad teeth, wearing a blue jacket and a dark knit hat.

C & E Hardware, like other retail businesses has it’s occasional shoplifter but has not had any other increase of thefts or break-ins of late. Business is good lately with an increase of gift buying for Christmas. For a fine touch and nice surprise for many, C & E offers a wide range of billiards equipment.

• Garage Burglary – 35xx Owasso Street – between 7 p.m. 11/28 and 10:30 a.m. 11/30. Forced entry with door handle lock broken off. Tool box, hand tools, power tools, Specialize bicycle, and tent stolen.
• Auto Theft – YMCA, 37xx Lexington Avenue – between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. 12/1. Employee’s red 1999 Honda Civic stolen. St. Paul Police recovered vehicle at Flandrau and Bush 12/3.
• Theft – Windows for America, 9xx E. County Road E – between 3 p.m. 11/30 and 7:45 a.m. 12/1. Tools, valued at $2000, stolen from enclosed work trailer. Trailer’s rear door lock was cut.
• Residential Burglary – 2xx Oakwood Drive- before 16:15 hours on 12/3. Report of coins and a hockey stick being taken from home.
• Auto Theft- 16xx County Road I W- between 11 pm 12/4 and 8:30 am 12/5. Green 1997 Toyota Corolla from driveway.

• Office Burglary – 46xx Churchill Street – 2:45 a.m. 11/23. Forced entry – window smashed with landscape rock. Wall-mounted big screen monitor taken.
• Theft – 35xx Lexington Avenue – 3 p.m. 11/20. Wallet stolen from purse when women left her office for a few moments.
• Check Fraud – 3xx Bridge Street – 11/21. Resident reported check stolen from mailbox and then used to print fake checks with her bank information.
• Theft – Fantastic Sam’s, 59xx Rice Creek Parkway – 2:30 p.m. 11/22. Wallet stolen from purse. Suspect – B/F, “older,” 5/4, thin build, short hair, wearing eye glasses, missing all top teeth and many lower teeth as well.
• Criminal Damage to Property – 57xx Birch Trail – between 4 p.m. 11/21 and 6:30 a.m. 11/22. Driver’s window broken out on Dodge minivan. Nothing missing from van.
