Friday flurry: from football to SAHI to Ralph Reader
- Tonight the Section 2 AAAAA champ Mounds View Mustangs try again to get by 2009 state champ Cretin Derham Hall in round one of the class 5A state football tournament. The game will be played at Griffin Stadium (Central HS) in St. Paul at 7:00 pm. The winner plays against the winner of Blaine vs Wayzata next Saturday, November 20 at 12:45 pm. - For those of you that have not been through the North Oaks Village Center lately there are a few new shops lately. I guess it’s been a while since I was down to the end of it.
- Papa Murphy’s with take and bake pizzas now has a location open in the Village Center.
- Nutritional Weight & Wellness has a new location the Village since late summer where they offer counseling and classes to educate people to better health.
- Lifecore Yoga has also opened up shop in the Village, also late in the summer. Lifecore offers yoga and pilates in a comfortable and encouraging community atmosphere.
- Gellar Jewelers moved from the Village in late summer over across the street to 4535 Hodgson Rd.
- The Shoreview City Council meets this coming Monday, November 12 at 7:00pm. There is a public hearing on establishing a written spending plan for tax increment financing district No. 5 and approval of a Business Expansion Loan Program called “Advantage Shoreview.” Also on the agenda is the awarding of the sale of bonds and a text amendment on property and housing maintenance. More to come on these items.
- Reports were that a great time was had when the Shoreview Area Housing Initiative (SAHI) held a Hope for a Home Community Breakfast yesterday morning at the Shoreview Community Center. Attendees heard about SAHI and the people they are helping to move out of homeless shelters into affordable and safe housing while enjoying a dandy catered breakfast. Speakers included Jason Hedstrand, a champion speed skating champion from Shoreview and Susan Haigh, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity CEO and President.
- Don’t forget about the Ralph Reader Food Shelf as we head into the Holiday Season. November is Thanksgiving month and families visiting the food shelf receive an extra special Thanksgiving Bag along with their regular food shelf items. Volunteers and donations are much appreciated.
- Northeastern Minnesot’a Lake County Board has approved an agreement to sell its Sunrise Home senior housing to Shoreview’s Ecumen. The purchase price is $500,000.
- Roseville Area Schools, Roseville Parks & Rec and Roseville Community Ed sponsors the 23rd annual 623 Walk/Run tomorrow Saturday, November 13 at 9:00 am. All proceeds go to establishing a Community Education Youth Enrichment Scholarship Fund. See the 623 Walk/Run page for more information and entry form.
